StudentsFirst.org: Teachers putting students first and how we can reform education in America
Put students first! Take the StudentsFirst Pledge: www.studentsfirst.org Led by Michelle Rhee, the former Chancellor of DC Public Schools, StudentsFirst formed in 2010 in response to an increasing demand for a better education system in America. Our grassroots movement is designed to mobilize parents, teachers, students, administrators, and citizens throughout country, and to channel their energy to produce meaningful results on both the local and national level. United For Children Advocacy is doing business as "StudentsFirst: a movement to transform public education" and is a 501(c)4 organization based in Washington, DC To succeed in our mission, we're working with parents, teachers, administrators, and citizens across the country to ensure great teachers, access to great schools, and effective use of public dollars. Together, we'll demand that legislators, courts, district administrators, and school boards create and enforce policies that put students first. We'll make sure politicians and administrators recognize and reward excellent teachers, give novice teachers the training they need, and quickly improve or remove ineffective educators. We'll work to ensure that every family has a number of options for excellent schools to attend, so that getting into a great school becomes a matter of fact, not luck. And we'll make sure all Americans understand that our schools are not only an anchor for our communities, but an absolute gateway to our national prosperity and ...

Educational rap for a high school accounting course Get it on iTunes: itunes.apple.com Yo, yo, you wanna be an accountant? Think it over, It ain't easy, you might need a four leaf clover. If you ain't willing to work hard, then can it - It's the most sought after job on this planet. Now, you tell me you wanna be an impartial judge of my solvency? Now, you tell me you wanna protect the world from corporate fraudulency? Now, all that sounds like fun, son, but you gotta walk before you can run. To know what these numbers mean you gotta know the debit credit theory! Debits on the left, credits on the right, Debit left! Credit right! Debit left! Credit right! For complete satisfaction, Balance all of your transactions. So, if you really wanna know, 'bout your cash flow, where your money go? Why I Love Teaching
It's hard to explain why we enjoy teaching so much. Really, it's the students that make going to work so much fun, but that's not an easy explanation either. So, here's a short video to try to show why teaching in Korea is so fun. This is a really special video for us. We hope to show how awesome our students are, and how being able to have fun with students like this makes teaching such an awesome job that we feel lucky to have.

Summarization 6 Reciprocal Teaching Pt 1
Part 1 of 2 In this segment, the teacher begins by modelling for students a process for engaging with text, which creates a framework to move them toward active, independent and deep comprehension of the material. We then watch students, in their guided reading group as they work through the four stages of reciprocal teaching: predicting, clarifying, questioning and summarizing. In this collaborative environment, students lead each other to develop greater understanding of the text through discussion and reflection.

Teaching Programmable Logic Control (PLC) with the ST290 Industrial Control Module from LJ Create
Teaching Programmable Logic Control (PLC) with the ST290 Industrial Control Module from LJ Create
The hardware for this module comprises an electro-pneumatic production line system. A ladder logic programming editor and drive system, specifically designed for education, that mimics programmable logic controllers used in industry, is also included. All programming tasks that students complete can be tested on both a simulated production line and the real hardware system. By using the on-screen simulation of the production line you can turn every PC into a fully functioning training system. This means that you only need one hardware system in the classroom. Students develop and test programs on their own computer, before transferring the final version to the actual hardware. The ST290 Industrial Control Module brings a typical industrial application into the classroom, challenging students to think like real engineers and solve real problems. The well written curriculum materials supplied with this module introduces students to industry standard ladder logic programming. Through a progressive series of assignments, they discover concepts and programming techniques which are then put into practice during design challenges. The final task is for them to apply all their skills to design and test a parts selection system. The ready-made lessons, for both tutor and student provide a blended learning approach. This gives the opportunity for independent learning, team-work and group demonstrations to be carried out. Theory presentations in PowerPoint, enable tutors to ...

Confessions of a Converted Lecturer: Eric Mazur
Eric Mazur: "I thought I was a good teacher until I discovered my students were just memorizing information rather than learning to understand the material. Who was to blame? The students? The material? I will explain how I came to the agonizing conclusion that the culprit was neither of these. It was my teaching that caused students to fail! I will show how I have adjusted my approach to teaching and how it has improved my students' performance significantly." Eric Mazur is the Balkanski Professor of Physics and Applied Physics at Harvard University. An internationally recognized scientist and researcher, he leads a vigorous research program in optical physics and supervises one of the largest research groups in the Physics Department at Harvard University.

FAILING STUDENT EXCUSES
FAILING STUDENT EXCUSES
educlaytion.com Find the full article to go with this video at http Twitter! twitter.com A student decides she needs a decent grade after blowing off the semester. Teachers love this student. When it comes to the end of the school year, grading finals and research papers can be miserable enough. The inevitable student that pulls in after a 2 month bender in Slacker City makes a professor like me want to stab myself in the brain. Teachers can relate. If you can't, you will soon. Students are better off to just walk in and say, "I blew it. Can we fix this at all." Save the stories. Spare the excuses.
